AI Code is the new tech debt
Jeff Penney·September 2026
AI coding assistants like Claude Code are generating a tremendous volume of specifications, testing harnesses, repos, tickets, versions, rollbacks, and of course, code, but not all of it good. Quick results and demos are promising, the output risks a form of AI slop that, if not properly categorized for standards and interoperability may result in a worse mess than the effort was intended to replace. Teams of engineers using coding agents must be coordinated to preserve coherence and prevent another generation of fragmented systems and quick fixes.
